BASS FISHING And Bass Fly Fishing Truths

Bass Fishing and Fly Fishing Articles, Fish Recipes and Fishing Secrets And Secret Baits Of Old.
www.fishyfishstuff.com

Bass fishing has a fascinating history.Bass fishing has been around for hundreds years. Fishing was used as a means to search for food among the people in the south of the United States. Since then, it has encompassed all ages and nations. Today, countries such as Australia, Cuba, South Africa, The United States and most of Europe practice fishing.

Bass happenings during history:

• Bass fishing was born around the years 1768 to 1770

• William Shakespeare Jr. produced the first winding fishing reel and got its patent on 1897.

• The William J. Jamison Co created the first spinner and it became today’s spinner baits.

• In 1932, President Franklin D. Roosevelt instituted the creation of The Tennessee Valley Authority and encouraged the creation and building of numerous dams. These dams were later used as fisheries for different species of bass.

• 1937 DuPont Company filed patent for a nylon fishing net, which became today’s nylon monofilament fishing line. With some changes it stays straight and lasts quite a long time with cleaning and care.

• In the year 1992 Larry Nixon, the famous fisherman in the history of bass fishing won $1M total earnings for this sport on this year. Today we have bass tournaments all over the US and winnings of $100,000 to $1,000,000 are common.

Bass come in a variety of types. The most caught bass are:

• Largemouth Bass
• Smallmouth bass
• Kentucky Bass
• White Bass
• Black Bass
• Sea Bass

Australia has Bass but they are different from North American Bass, although they have similar features.

In the 1950s, Due to the development of modern fishing equipment, from bass boats, rods, lines, lures and various fishing gears, Bass fishing lept into the future.

Electronic gear was incorporated among the host of equipment bass fishers used at that time. Reels of different types, which function in hauling and hoisting, and flipping came into development.

Statistics show sport is increasing and that more and more people are getting interested in today. Surpassing tennis and golf.

Fly fishing for bass is a popular sport as well. Some items you will use in fly fishing.

A good fiberglass or bamboo rod is required and comes in various sizes. The most used size is a 9 foot rod. The rod is longer than normal rods because the rod is used to cast the heavier line.
Rods will come in one, two or three piece units. Many fishermen prefer a two piece rod as it is easier to transport.
The type of fly line you use will depend on the rod you select. Look on the rod handle for the type of line to use with this rod.

The reel of a fly rod is very different than a spin casting rod and will hold less line. This is because the line is much thicker. With a spin rod the lure is pulling the line but with a fly rod the line is pulling the lure.
Most bass fly fishers will want to use a Up-Locking with extension butt type rod. Your fishing store will know what your asking for.

Another important item for the fly fisher is a good fishing vest.
You want as many pockets as you can get and large enough to hold your lure boxes and other items. Also make sure there is a felt or wool fly holder to stick extra fly lures to. This makes it easy to change lures when needed.

Chest or hip waders are also a good idea when bass fly fishing. You will be able to wade the river and streams and get right on a bass while in the water. Remember bass like to hide and strike their prey.

A good pair of wading shoes or boot will help too. Find some with good soles of leather, felt or non slippery texture. I used to use rubber soled boots but they were slippery on moss covered rocks in West Virginia, I now have felt glued to the bottoms and find this works well.

When bass fly fishing do not be worried about not catching any bass, it maybe trout time…So fish for trout. They are fun to catch and just as tasty. Get tasty fish recipes and more fishing articles and secrets.

By Jimmy Roos

Although bass fishing is a lot of fun and some do it only for the enjoyment aspect, there are others who consistently want to catch a lot of fish. These fishermen need to become smart and apply proven bass fishing techniques.

There are as many techniques as there are fish and every serious fisherman has his own fishing techniques that allow him to catch his targeted fish species. For example, when fishing for bass, the fisherman needs to apply bass fishing techniques suitable for the kind of bass as well as conditions he is fishing in.

The first consideration when developing the bass fishing techniques that will bring you your dream catch is to choose the shore you are to start out from.

Also you have to pay particular attention to the weather. Bass fishing is most productive in the great lakes and just like in the ocean; these great lakes can be very dangerous if bad weather strikes.

This is why it’s recommended to go bass fishing during summer, especially if the area you select for your bass fishing adventure is a big lake, like Lake Erie.

The other thing to consider in bass fishing is whether you plan to fish offshore in deep water using a boat or just from the shoreline.

When fishing in deep water, make sure that your boat is safe. In other words, it is fully equipped with all safety devices and complies with all safety regulations imposed by your host state relating to bass fishing in their area.

There are some fishermen who employ the trolling technique when fishing offshore in order to catch more fish. However, an individual who is fishing for bass only needs a small boat and minor fishing gadgets.

Experience has shown that you are likely to have more success when fishing bass from the shore at night.

Another thing to look at is if the water is clear. Your chances of a good catch decrease when the water is very clear. Many species of bass like the Smallmouth Bass prefer discolored waters and avoids clear water.

It is also important to consider the contour of the underwater terrain when bass fishing. It may be helpful to consult an expert in the terrain of the lake you are fishing who will guide you to the best place to fish.

Your choice of fishing gadgets, to large degree, will determine your success in bass fishing. For example, select the most durable hooks that will hold firm when opportunity is given.

The choice of baits is also essential. There are plastic baits that can do the job, but natural baits such as worms and flies do better. It is important to remember that the bigger the bait, the greater the probability of catching the big fish.

One good bass fishing technique, especially during summer, is choosing to fish along Long Point Bay at Lake Erie. This is because during this time, many bass fishes, especially the smallmouth bass, choose this channel to swim back to the main lake after spawning.

If you are an amateur in bass fishing, it’s best to fish with a partner who is an experienced fisherman and is also familiar with the flora and fauna of the area you are fishing in.

As a beginner, it may be advisable to fish only from the shoreline of a big lake or you may try fishing in the smaller lakes. Smaller lakes offer also varieties of bass fishes such as the smallmouth bass and white bass.

Plan your bass fishing trip well by developing and adopting bass fishing techniques suitable to the waters you aim to explore and the fish you are targeting.

Bass fishing techniques vary from one situation to another. I hope the few ideas presented here assist you in planning your next bass fishing adventure.

Become the envy of your bass fishing buddies! Take a trip to Lake El Salto! We'll tell you why in this revealing report.

By Dean Caporella

Lake El Salto in Mexico is a bass fishing haven recognised worldwide. The bonus for anglers in this fishing paradise is the size of the fish on offer, in many cases, you’ll be throwing back fish considered a good size at most other fishing hotspots!

Lake El Sato provides excellent fishing all year round however, the prime time is usually between September through to about June. Weather conditions will dictate whether you venture to this part of the world outside this time but the months of July and August usually provide weather conditions in the extreme and may be uncomfortable for most keen anglers.

Lake El Sato Packages

As with any commercial fishing holiday, there are some sweet packages available to anglers and the benefits on offer are very attractive. For example, short to medium term stays offer not just lodging facilities but a host of other features including fishing guides, boat and Mexican fishing license.

Prices for organised excursions can vary but a three to four night stay could set you back up to $1500 but consider the service you’ll be getting and the almost guaranteed large fish you’ll be catching and for a bass fishing enthusiast, an El Sato experience is well worth the investment.

Lake El Salto is Mexico’s most popular fishing lake. It not only offers great fishing for visitors but it’s proximity to the magnificent resort of Mazatlan offers alternatives once you’ve had your fill of fishing.

One Day Packages

Mazatlan is just 50 miles from Lake El Sato and if you are there on vacation with the family and get the itch to fish some freshwater bass then one day packages are available. Cost is about $600 which includes transfer from your hotel to Lake El Sato and return. The day will be fully guided including a boat however, some extras may not be included so check with the tour operator before you book.

Trophy Size Bass

If it’s trophy size bass you’re after then Lake El Sato has more than it’s fair share on offer. In fact, anglers worldwide who have visited this veritable paradise of bass will tell you in no uncertain manner a life of bass fishing isn’t complete unless you’ve cast a line into Mexico’s most visited lake.

Better still, the fish here are extremely aggressive and will strike just about any bait you throw at them so it’s not just size which will satisfy your fishing appetitie but you’ll remember the experience simply because you fought and snared a fish who gave you a run for your money! Isn’t that what fishing is all about.

Bass up to 15-16 pounds are common at Lake El Salto in fact, the only drawback is when you return home to your normal fishing hole and find the fish don’t seem to be as big. In this case, size definately does matter!

By: Daniel Eggertsen

The fishing rod is the first basic piece of tackle the average bass fisherman needs to consider. I recommend a medium or medium light action graphite spinning rod. I advise buying a rod six foot long. This rod can be used in a variety of different fishing conditions. As you become more experienced you will see the need for more specialized rods at times. I have always used Berkley or Fenwick rods and found them to always be up to the task at hand. You should purchase your rod and reel simultaneously. I advise mounting the reel on the rod and holding it before you make a choice. The rod and reel combo should feel right. Hold the rod direct above where the reel is seated. If you point the rod perpendicular to your body it should balance in a straight line. If it does not the reel may be too big or heavy and need to be replaced with a lighter one.

Your next consideration is the reel. For the average fisherman I recommend an open faced spinning reel. The key here is to match the reel to the line you will be using. I like a reel that holds approximately 150 yards of 8 lb fishing line. I also like a reel with an excellent drag system. You have two choices regarding drag. I prefer reels that have a drag in the back of the reel. For me these drags are easier to adjust. Other people prefer the drag to be in the front of the reel on top of the spool. I consider this a matter of personal preference. Try both and go with what feels best to you. When you purchase a reel you will see a term “gear ratio”. They affect the power of the reel. The higher the gear ratio the more line that will be retrieved by each 360 degree turn of the handle.

For line I recommend monofilament line with a test of 8-12 lb. This is as close to an all purpose line that you can get. Again as you become more experienced you will see the need for lighter and heavier lines. I use Berkley Trilene line but have tried all the major brands and found them to be good. They key is to match your line to the reel you have chosen. I like to keep 150 yards of line on my reel. If your reel holds 150 yards of 10 lb line then I advise using that weight. You should always keep an extra spool of line on hand. You should also constantly check your line for nicks and other imperfections that can cause a fish to be lost.

Next I will discuss what selection of artificial baits an average fisherman should have in his tackle box. The average fisherman should have a varied selection of jig combinations. A jig consists of two parts. The jig head is basically a hook with a weight near the eye. You should have several different sizes of hooks and weights. I recommend a selection of 1/16, 1/8 and 1/4 ounce jig heads.

You will next need a collection of skirts. The skirt is what you place on the hook to entice the bass. Skirts are generally made of plastic. They can be in the form of a worm with twister tail or perhaps a more traditional skirt. The key is color and size. Choose an ample supply of many different colors, sizes and styles. These skirts will need to be replaced often so have enough in your box.

Crankbaits are artificial bait all fishermen should have in their boxes. A crankbait is generally made from wood or in some cases plastic. It is shaped like a fish and has a plastic lip directly near the eye. This lip determines how deep the lure will go. Some crankbait are designed to run 2-4 deep while others go much deeper. I always keep about 5 shallow runners and 5 deep runners in my tackle box. Again choose a variety of colors, sizes and shapes. Always before you fish make sure your hooks on these baits are sharp. If not sharpen or replace them. A hook sharpener is a tool all fishermen should have in their tackle box.

No matter how experienced you are as fishermen, you should always be willing (and trying!) to get your hands on some good tips on how to catch your favorite fish. The true test of the fishing tip lies in a) the source, b) it’s proven success and c) it helping you in catching more fish! What works for you might not be what works for someone else. Worse yet – what doesn’t work for you (but you think it does) gives all the fish to someone else.

Good Bass Fishing Tips

There are lots fishing tips that are floating around with special emphasis on catching bass. One of the most important tips however (not only for bass fishing but for any other species) is that the fisherman has to be extremely familiar with the fish he/she wants to catch. If you are fishing for bass, you should know where they live, what they eat, where they like to frequent and why, how to locate them in the morning and at night, and the best way to attract them. This may be precisely what you are looking for. This is where the research comes in on finding those bass fishing tips.

Bass Fishing Tip #1

You cannot fish for bass, or any other fish, unless you are comfortable with the location / destination the fishing for that species takes place. For example, there is specific type of bass called the Peacock Bass that lives in the Amazon River. If you want to catch it, pack your bags and head to the Amazons because you won’t find it anywhere else. So, know where your fish live before you attempt to start catching them somewhere they don’t swim. Believe it or not, simple mistakes like not knowing where the bass you’re fishing for is not uncommon. Don’t be the dummy!

Bass fishing Tip #3

Summer is the season for fishing, especially for bass fishing. It’s just too bad that summer boating, hot tempratures, etc. make bass fishing more difficult. But if you’re a goal setter and a die-hard fisherman set on catching some great bass, you will have to plan a trip to your summer destination… like Florida – or at least some place where the bass live and you can take your pick. They will be following the crayfish which is their favorite food. If you have a well known spot or place you always enjoy fishing then take advantage! Steer clear of popular boating areas that scare the fish away. If you do not, I would recommend looking at one of the fishing guides we’ve reviewed – lots of great information to get you on your way.

Bass Fishing Tip #4

Unless you have a fair idea of what you are doing, no matter how many fish are in the sea, you won’t be able to catch one of them. They guy next to you who’s been fishing since he was 5 with his father and grandfather will be catching everything you’re not. You should know how to use each and every piece in your angling box; carrying with you adequate lures and live bait which are ONLY for bass. The method of fishing, your style of fishing and the fishing implements you carry will have to complement one another perfectly if you want to have an easy and enjoyable time bass fishing.

There is a lot to learn, so be patient, it will come. I congratulate you on taking the first steps to learning great new tips on making your perfect catch. For more tips, have a look at the bass fishing guides we’ve reviewed – these are a great start to getting you on your way to catching all the bass you can dream of. Good luck and happy fishing!

Fishing Lures – Small Things Make Big Differences in Angling by Mike Singh

When you think of fishing, there is perhaps no piece of equipment more recognized than fishing lures. There are countless thousands of lures on the market, and there is something for just about every species of fish to mistake for a good meal. Fishing lures today come in just about every conceivable color and shape, from bright neon minnows, to larger rubber frogs and crawfish. Finding the right lures for the days on the lake sometimes can be tricky, as during different seasons a lake fish such as a bass or trout change their diet to accommodate the various temperatures and water conditions.

While many people enjoy using a good old worm to land a fish on the docks every now and again, it is the lures that tend to offer the best strikes from the larger fish. Species such as bass, pike, and walleye tend to go after larger quick moving bait, when it comes to mealtime. This is not to say that a larger predatory fish will not enjoy a worm every once and a while, it just means that lures are more apt to look like what they are accustomed to hunting in regards to prey.

When it comes to lures there are a great number of benefits when fishing, allowing the angler many options when it comes to choice being the most obvious. There are however some disadvantages as well when it comes to lures. Easily the biggest disadvantage that lures possess, would have to be the snag factor. Sometimes when casting lures in tight areas that may include weeds or water logged driftwood, fishing lures may become snagged and unable to release. There are good possibilities at this point that you can loose that prized lure, as you will be unable to get it free from the object. This could easily become a rather costly day on the lake, should you loose 3-5 lures while trying to get your cast in tight where a school may be in staging.

Sometimes a smart fish may not go after even some of the best fishing lures, as it still may be skeptical of the lures movements and deem it non-edible. Matching the right fishing lures with the right species and season, can make all the difference in the world when it comes to being successful on the lake. Trying to catch a small lake trout with lures that are primarily designed for large mouth bass, will only show you just how smart a fish can really be. For this very reason lures are designed around the breed themselves, and are diligently worked on to improve their success rate when used. Perhaps one of the best ways to ensure some level of success with lures, would be to do some research on the species themselves.

By studying their natural habitat, their feeding preferences, and there behaviors, you will be able to get a better understanding of this particular breeds traits. From this point you will be more suited to make an educated guess on which fishing lures will work best for what you are after.
